A few weeks ago we introduced our first Wave Team Rider, 13-Year-Old Wing-Foiling Waterman, Kaden Pritchard. This week we would love to introduce you to our Windsurfing Wave Team Rider, Federico Morisio!

Meet Federico Morisio

We were able to interview Federico for him to share with you, in his own words, about his background of windsurfing and a glimpse into his unique lifestyle.

How old were you when you started windsurfing? How old are you now?

I started windsurfing at 9 years old and I’m now 27!

How did you get into windsurfing?

I was lucky enough that my dad was (and still is) a windsurfer too; so he basically taught me

and transmitted me the passion for the sport. My family dedicated every summer holiday to

windsurfing.

What do you love most about windsurfing and where is your favorite spot to windsurf?

I love the feelings of freedom and joy that it gives you; I love the fact that it’s always different,

always challenging and super exciting. Finally, this sport motivates me to travel and chase the best conditions, which also permitted me to make new friends all over the world, know different countries, learn new languages and experience different cultures.

Who are some of your favorite athletes?

I like Lebron James, Rafael Nadal, Lewis Hamilton and Cristiano Ronaldo; most of all because of their incredible commitment to the sport and their unique mindsets. This is what I value the most in athletes and sports. I value a lot also the personal side, but in these cases I just limit myself to their athletic and mental skills.

What do you want people to know who are wanting to learn to windsurf?

It’s an unbelievable sport that will change your life for the better if you stick to it. You need

patience, drive and perseverance to learn it, but I swear that every little step forward will feel

incredibly fulfilling. In today’s society we almost forgot this, but great things take time and

windsurfing is exactly like this: if you stick to it and persevere, it will all be completely worth it.

What do you like about being a Flavor Waves team athlete?

First of all my incredible friendship with Mike, which besides being a super enthusiast windsurfer is also a fantastic person. I always feel supported from him and the Flavor Waves team, and this permits me to focus on my training and athletic activities in order to become an always better version of myself as an athlete and person.

Do you have a pre-windsurf routine? What does that look like?

I do have a morning routine that I try to stick to; it comprehends a meditation practice and a

yoga session. It depends though also on the windsurfing conditions and period of the year;

sometimes I have physical training session instead of yoga, sometimes I simply rest. While

immediately before the windsurfing session I start visioning what I want to do in the water, focus, relax, be happy, motivate myself and get into the zone!

What is your favorite beverage?

I love coffee! Sometimes though I like to switch to green tea too and for the evenings I enjoy

some chamomile to slow down my mind and prepare for bed :)

If you drink coffee or tea - what is your favorite flavor?

I love the hazelnut cream! The chocolate macadamia nut is a great one too! It’s hard to

choose ;)

Do you have a favorite quote or book? If so, what is it?

I really like reading quotes as they consistently inspire me to become a better person; so I can’t say to have only one, but here’s a few:

“Great things take time”

“Don’t do to others what you don’t want them to do to you”

And then there’s one that I kind of crafted myself throughout the years and that I try to always keep in my mind:

“Dream big, work hard and enjoy every moment”

I love reading self-improvement books too and these are some of my favorite ones that really changed my life and helped me create strong principles in my life:

“How to win friends and influence people” from Dale Carnegie ; amazing book that teaches

you how to treat people and communicate properly.

“Principles” from Ray Dalio that shared great suggestions and insights in order to have a

happy, successful and fulfilled life.

“Breaking the habit of being yourself” from Joe Dispenza; this book gave me a different vision of life and scientifically explains the importance of our personality, which is create and dictated mostly by our own feelings and thoughts. Everything starts and it’s controlled by our mind, which is an incredible tool that we need to understand and has to work for ourselves instead of against us!

"Dream Big, Work Hard, and Enjoy Every Moment" -Federico Morisio

Flavor Waves + Windsurfing

Many of you may know that owner of Flavor Waves Mike Abrams has been in the coffee & tea industry for over 30 years. What you may not know is that he also has been an avid windsurfer for just as long! Residing in Maui, Hawaii, known as the windsurfing capital of the world, Mike has been out on the water as much as possible during his free time.

His love for windsurfing has crossed over into his business over the years in big impactful ways. Hawaii is a huge inspiration for many unique flavor ideas for our clients such as Hawaiian Hazelnut and Chocolate Macadamia Nut, and Jawaiian Me Crazy flavor (named after the combo of Jamaican reggae and Hawaiian Island Ukulele reggae)

In 2019 Flavor Waves partnered with UpSpring.org to make a young girl's dream come true by learning to windsurf with local kids in La Ventana, Mexico. Mike and professional windsurfer (and Flavor Waves team rider) Federico Morisio spent a week donating their time and skills to teach kids how to windsurf. Mike is just as passionate about windsurfing and giving back to the community, as he is about making the world a tastier place to live.

Continuing the bond between Flavor Waves and Mike's love for wind and water sports, in 2022 Flavor Waves signed on two athletes that are proud to be sponsored by our company. We would love the opportunity to share more about our Pro-Windsurfing Team Rider Federico Morisio.
